P.E/ Sports Premium

Our aim is for our pupils to be fit, healthy, to participate and enjoy a range of sports and fitness activities.

Our PE curriculum ensures that our pupils build and develop their skills as they move through the school. All pupils receive a weekly swimming lesson led by our qualified Swim Team, participate in weekly PE sessions and each day access our wonderful playground where there is a wide range of fitness, sports and motor development opportunities for all ages; this includes our lunch time ‘huff and puff’ sessions where pupils participate in staff led activities that raise their heart rate through running, jumping etc. to support them in building their fitness levels and stamina. We also have daily lunch time walking groups where staff members walk in the local area with small groups of pupils. This offers pupils the opportunity to exercise as well as learning how to cross the road safely.

In addition to this, our KS2 pupils can also choose to access Friday Excel sessions where they can further develop their skills that will support them in accessing sports and fitness opportunities supporting healthy life styles as they grow older. Our older KS2 pupils also experience deeper water swimming lessons and participate in competitions against other school i.e. swimming galas.

Our PE, sports and fitness audit identifies our PE/sports offer and shows how we have used our Sport Premium.

NB – The government has provided additional sports funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – has been allocated to primary school Head teachers. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this: see our PE, sports and fitness audit above for details of our spending and its impact on pupils.
